About the Event
If you're interested in exploring a new way to create landscapes, this workshop is an amazing opportunity! We will introduce you to a new form of art called Kinusaiga, which is a relaxing way to unwind while crafting a beautiful piece of artwork.
Kinusaiga, or "silk painting," is a Japanese art form that involves creating detailed, quilt-like pictures by tucking fabric scraps into grooves cut into foam, and it requires no sewing. This eco-friendly craft originates from the traditional kimekomi doll-making technique and transforms fabric remnants and simple materials into often 3D textured, framed, or mosaic-style artworks.
Developed in Japan in the 1980s by artist Maeno Takashi, Kinusaiga evolved from Oshie, an ancient Japanese craft where padded fabric was wrapped around wooden forms to create raised images. It embodies Japanese aesthetic values such as wabi-sabi.
